A taste of the exotic

I have loved cars and everything about them for as long as I can remember. I love driving them, I love watching video's about them, I love writing about them in my other blog The Drivetrain, and I love taking pictures of them.

This is not your normal blog where people talk about whatever interests them or they write about their business or dog or garden (not to discount those people at all, many of them are very talented and interesting, not all but many). This blog will be me posting photo's of car's that I have taken. Although if I find a photo that is of exceptional quality or an exceptional car, I will post it as well and of course give credit where credit is due. The photo's that I take will be taken with an Iphone or my Nikon D5000 (I will specify). Each week I will feature a different genre of car for example this first post will be lightly focused on exotic cars (I only say lightly because it is the first post trust me there will be a more in depth exotic coverage later) because that is my favorite genre of car. Basically I'll post photo's of awesome cars and talk about them. So let's get started.

Pagani Zonda R, iPhone
The car above is non other than the mighty Pagani Zonda R (I apologize for the quality. apparently my hand was shaking. Do ya blame me?) To actually get a picture of this car is an accomplishment unto itself. Pagani only ever made 15 of these at 1.8 million a pop (with that you also get a shipping container full of 15 thousand dollars worth of race tools and tech). Each Zonda R is equipped with a spine crushing 739 horsepower 6.0 litre AMG sourced V12. This propels the car from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds flat (for a rear wheel drive car that is mind boggling) and it will keep going onto a top speed of 233 miles per hour! The one you are looking at is the ONLY one in North America and it is the only one produced in strictly carbon fiber. That's all pretty insane right? (see why my hand was shaking when I found it) There is only a slight issue with this car. It is not in the least bit street legal......anywhere....it has no turn signals or air bags. It is also not legal to race in any series other than the Pagani Zonda series. So for you're 1.8 million dollars you get a car you can only drive on the track....sometimes. Also to actually race this thing it costs a similar amount to running an F1 car (don't ask me how much that is, let's just assume it's astronomical).

Maserati GranTurismo, iPhone
That is a 2013 Maserati Gran Turismo at a local dealer. It retails for $149,900 (CAD), has 454 horsepower and does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. It's not the fastest car in the world or the most expensive but damn isn't she pretty?

Mercedes Mclaren SLR 722 S Edition, iPhone
Another super rare one. What you see here is the SLR 722 S edition Mercedes - it was only made for one year (2009) and only 150 of the 722 S were made. This beast has a 650 horsepower AMG (like the Pagani) V8 that lets this car put down a 3.8 second 0-60 time and go on to a top end of 208. Apparently the 722 in the cars name is representative of a race called the Mille Miglia held every year. However the one held in 1955 which had Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson compete and win in a Mercedes 300 SL just so happened to start at exactly 7:22 in the morning, hence the name.

Nissan GTR, iPhone
And now we come to my favorite car of all time. Some call it Godzilla (for good reason) some call it the super car killer (also for good reason). The Nissan GTR is in my books the most impressive car on sale today. It has anywhere from 485 to 545 HP depending on the year and was one of the first cars to do 0-60 in under 3.0 seconds. I've heard 2.7. I've heard 2.9. For a car that weighs 3.800 pounds that is bloody impressive and all that car costs just over 100 grand (which isn't cheap but it will hang with cars anywhere from 200 grand to a million dollars, so it's a bargain). I love this car quite frankly because it cheats physics. Something that heavy should not be able to do the things it does. In fact I just found out the upcoming 2015 NIsmo GTR will hit 60 MPH in 2 seconds flat, that for all my readers and viewers will be a new record (beating the Ariel Atom V8 at 2.3 seconds) If that comes to fruition the word acceleration will be rewritten.

So there you have it. Four spectacular cars I've had the extreme pleasure of seeing and photographing. A lot to take in huh? That is all for now folks the upcoming posts will have more photography of spectacular car porn.
